The Gut-Brain-Skin Connection

Maintaining a healthy gut environment becomes more and more important with every new found connection made between the gut and our brain. The gut contains our "enteric nervous system" most commonly referred to as our "second brain". This system is made up of a web of neurons that are interconnected through neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are responsible for our emotions, which is why when we feel anxious, excited or nervous we feel this in our gut. It is estimated that 90-95 percent of our serotonin levels the "feel good" neurotransmitter, is found in our gut. Interestingly enough the gut and our skin enjoy a constant dialogue via what has become known as the "gut-skin axis" linking the health of our skin microbiome to the health of our gut microbiome. This goes to show just how interconnected our bodies are and how important it is to keep our gut healthy through proper nutrition in and on the body in order for optimal mental health and well being.

External skin detox can be done through scrubs, plasters, feeding the skin barrier microbiome and balancing your skin pH levels. These practices foster collagen and elastin development, boost cell metabolism and increase cell turnover.

"Shimmer Chef is truly too good to be true. I recently tried the Face & Neck Plaster Trio. My skin had been looking very dull and tired, and I was getting no lasting improvement from any of my usual lotions and potions. While I expected my skin to feel soft and full of life immediately after applying the plasters, I saw results last well into the the next few days and beyond. It was as if my skin literally drank up all of the amazing healing ingredients in a way I’ve never experienced from any other products (or even after an expensive spa facial!)."
